About the project

About Spider Identifier

A cautious photo-identification tool designed to make uncertainty and safer next steps visible.

What this tool does

Spider Identifier compares visible traits in one to three photos with optional broad location and observation details. It is intended as an educational starting point for common North American spiders.

The result separates the most defensible taxonomic level from a more uncertain species hypothesis, names plausible alternatives, and explains missing or contradictory evidence.

What it cannot do

A photograph can hide diagnostic traits, scale, behavior, and habitat details. The service does not guarantee a species identification and does not replace an arachnologist, medical professional, veterinarian, poison-control specialist, or licensed pest professional.

Who operates it
